ive just purchased a 93 s10 pu that i want to do a v8 swap into.i did one of these swaps 2 years ago, except insted of a sbc swap i did a sbf swap.worked great except for the rearend.so my question is what rearend can i use to do this swap?i am on a budget so not looking for an expensive swap.anything close to bolt in?chevy or ford it doesnt matter to me.would prefer an 8.8 ford but not sure if it will work or not.im only making around 300 horse, its a mild build with no real intention on bolting slicks on.thanks

Measure the rear in the S-10,then go measure some Ranger rears at the junkyard.(I ment it to come out that way:) )

The 8.5 was a factory option for S-10s.

The 8.5 rears came mainly in the ZR-2's, and 4.3, 5 speed equipped trucks. most of them had disc brakes. But if your on a budget, look at the 8.8, the 8.5 is rather expensive since it's pretty rare. 8.8 is the same width, only thing you'll have to do is weld on new spring perches, and maybe a line adapter or two for the brakes.
